A head massage is the ideal way to bring yoga students into deep relaxation.

Aroma oil can be used to deepen the relaxation during the head massage. When using essential oils, make sure in advance that there are no allergies. Some people are sensitive to the head or do not like to be massaged. Accept this wish.

Instructions for a head massage

1) Drop oil into palms and rub hands warmly. Approximately 1 minute.

2) Place hands over the student’s eyes. The student’s eye muscles slowly relax. The student can let the warmth as well as the relaxing effect of the scent work on him.

3) After three deep breaths, gently place both thumbs on the forehead above the student’s nose. Slowly stroke the thumbs from the forehead over the temples to the cart bones. Touch in small circular motions over the scalp and temples.

4) Trust your intuition when massaging. More important than a particular technique are presence and intention. Especially on the head, all touches must be very slow, light as well as mindful.

5) At the back of the head as well as at the base of the cervical spine, massage lightly, slowly and in circles. Finally, press lightly on the back of the head with the thumbs to signal to the student that he has been grounded.
